Katelin and John Martini, whom you may remember from their engagement shoots, are two very good friends of mine. John grew up with my boyfriend, Brett, in New York and they also lived together in college. Brett and John both moved to the West Coast, so we all keep in touch often. I was honored to shoot their engagement photos, but I was extremely excited to be a GUEST at their wedding!! Katelin and John are the storybook fairytale and definition of “love at first sight”. They met on a blind date that was supposed to be a quick meet-up….which ended a few hours later. They have been glued to the hip ever since. Whether it is waking up at 5 am to watch John surf, or traveling to beautiful places like Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where Katelin would be for work for a few days, they are always together. They both reside in Los Angeles now, but John grew up in Upstate New York, and Katelin in Florida. When it came to decide where to have their wedding, they realized most of their guests would be traveling anyway…so why not get married in one of their FAVORITE places in the world- CABO!
The save-the-dates were sent out, guests bought plane tickets, their coordinator was busy planning away…..when we all heard the terrible news of Hurricane Odile hitting the Baja area of Mexico, and in particular, a direct hit to Cabo. Everything was destroyed. Many locals had no where to live. Flights were canceled. The wedding was placed on hold with crossed fingers. We had a month to until the big day. Luckily, the wedding venue had mostly cosmetic damage, and most of us were able to find places to stay that were taking guests. Katelin and John’s wedding coordinator did an amazing job running around that entire month to make sure everything was ready for everyone. Flights were rebooked and we were on our way!!
Once we arrived in Cabo, it was obvious that the place was still a mess from the hurricane. Buildings were missing windows, (or half gone!), debris was all over the land, and many hotels and restaurants were still not open. The locals were all optimistic and helpful. Fortunately, there was a bunch of us friends that rented out 3 houses near each other right on the water. We definitely enjoyed our stay! The ocean was clear blue, and warm as bath water. We surfed, ate, drank, and enjoyed everyone’s company.
The wedding, which was held at Flora Farms, was stunning. Everyone involved did a great job. I can’t wait to see the photos by Melissa from Marble Rye Photography! Here are some of the shots I captured of our adventures in Cabo.
