JUMP AHEAD TO:
Sarah and Will hosted a wedding at the Boulders at Black Canyon Inn in Estes Park, Colorado. They recently moved to the Centennial State and wanted to show off their new home to friends and family. The views at the Boulders encompass everything that is Colorado; beautiful blue and green canyon views of Rocky Mountain National Park. Their entire day went without a hitch. It was a warm late summer day, and they had a charming time remember everything that happened to get them there.
Two years prior, Will originally wanted to propose in Colorado but ran out of time before the cold set in. His second plan was to propose on a waterfall hike in the North Georgia mountains while they were home for Christmas. He planned a surprise with a photographer and Airbnb cabin to celebrate. The night before the proposal, he got an email from Airbnb that the stay had been cancelled because the cabin lost heat and power. Will and Sarah’s mom were visibly frustrated and panicking to find a literal last minute stay while Sarah was completely oblivious, laughing about yet another thing to go wrong in 2020. Out of the blue, her parents started talking about a little Bed & Breakfast close to the hiking spot that they stayed at 25 years ago. To their amazement they had one room left! The next day they drove up to Tallulah Gorge and started their hike as the sun began to set. On a beautiful cliff side, Will got down on one knee. He opened the ring box upside down,….by the edge of a cliff. Thankfully it was snug in the box and nothing bad happened (he later admitted he had never opened the ring box). Sarah and Will shared an intimate evening together, with dinner at the B&B and a special bottle of wine in front of the fireplace.

Black Canyon Inn is a resort in the quaint town of Estes Park, Colorado, nestled just under the gorgeous Rocky Mountain National Park. Views of the mountain peeks can be seen from most of the rooms and suits on site. There are two locations on site at the Inn for weddings, with The Boulders being the newer venue that sits on top of the property hill. The venue opened up in early 2020…obviously no one expected what would happen that year, and yet this venue still ended up thriving! (Which is a great testament as to how beautiful and grand this space is to survive what many other venues could not).
When you enter the venue, you are greeted with the most picturesque view looking out the grand windows and out over the balcony of the Rocky Mountains. This room and view is where the ceremony is usually held. It is great for all seasons, as the windows open up creating an open-air space that lets you feel as if you are out in the mountain air while still indoors.
Directly below this level, is another spacious room where guests will be seated for the reception. Similar to the room above it with large windows and a balcony overlooking the view, yet this level connects to the outdoor patio space.
The outdoor patio space is perfect for cocktail hour. Here you will find fire pits and even a beautiful waterfall! This space is cradled by the nearby boulders (hence the venue name the “Boulders”), which gives it a homey cabin like feel.
If you decide to host your event at the Boulders at Black Canyon Inn, you will also get full event coordination fur the duration of your wedding (up to 6 and a half hours). Catering (and beverage) is in house, and I confirm from personal experience that it is PHENOMENAL. Also included is your event tables and chairs for all your guests. The wedding couple is also provided getting ready areas on site! Parking is easy at this venue, as well as handicap access.
The Boulders is a large venue, and can host up to 200 guests. Sarah and Will had about 120 guests at their wedding and there was still plenty of room to spare! It’s rare to find a space this large with this many amenities, with views that are this beautiful as well.
Both parties of the wedding couple have a space to get ready in. One is on the upper level (that of the ceremony space) and has more of a “salon” feel. The other is down on the bottom level and is more of an open room. There is also a pool table in the adjacent storage room nearby to help kill time!
As mentioned before, the ceremony level opens up to a beautiful open air balcony with views of the canyons of Rocky Mountain National Park!
Below the ceremony level is the cocktail hour patio that opens up from the reception level. There are gas fire pits and a waterfall which makes for a gorgeous backdrop.
Another large space, the reception level also opens up to a balcony with canyon views. This area also includes a built in bar space, and is large enough to host a seated 200 person wedding!
At the bottom of the property at Black Canyon Inn, there is an “island” with a bridge that leads to it. This bridge and island are a great spot for First Look photos and wedding coupe portraits. Nearby the island is a stunning shaded aspen grove. I found that this space was great for larger wedding party photos!
Up at the top of the Boulders is, of course, boulders! If the wedding couple is daring enough to go on a little rock climbing adventure, these boulders make for great sunset portraits.
One of the best features of having your wedding at The Boulders at Black Canyon Inn is that guests can stay on site! There are options for suites, or 1-3 bedroom rentals on the property. Other nearby options to stay would be local AirBnbs, or the historic Stanley Hotel just down the road! (Ghost tours anyone!?)
