JUMP AHEAD TO:
Ginger and Jim hosted their Barn at Sunset Ranch wedding right as the leaves were starting to change in the mountains for autumn! These two flew in from California, including the majority of their family and friends, to celebrate in true Colorado-country form. These two have lived ALL over the country (including Colorado), yet still love to call this state home. It’s where they first met, so it felt fitting to get married in the mountains.
I love hearing the speeches at weddings, and Ginger and Jim’s was no exception. It’s when I get to hear the “true” love story, told from observers eyes, of how in love these two really are. They were smiles the whole day, (even through the wind!). It was a fun and loved packed weekend, and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it!

If you’re looking for that quintessential Colorado mountain location to host your event, then the Barn at Sunset Ranch wedding venue is a perfect spot! They really got the name right with ‘sunset’ ranch, as the colors in the evening at this location can be wild. The pinks and purples over the fields and cute barn really set the mood. It feels secluded enough to be considered a ranch, yet they are only 10 minutes from downtown Buena Vista!
The venue also allows dogs, and have a Bring Your Own Beer policy, but they do require to serve alcohol from their personal drink caterer, The Pour Trailer. If you’re looking for barn wedding venues Southwest Virginia, contact Bailey’s Wick Farm Wedding & Event Venue.
The Barn at Sunset Ranch is located in Buena Vista, Colorado. It sits right on the edge of town, amongst the beautiful 14er mountains that surround the quaint mountain village. Buena Vista is know for its kayaking and hiking, and sits at just shy of 8,000 ft elevation. The venue is only about a 10 minute drive from the Main Street of town, even though when you are there it feels like you are more secluded in the mountains!
The Barn at Sunset Ranch cost host up to 160 wedding guests! This would be the maximum that can fit at the venue, but I think a wedding of around 120 would be much more comfortable inside for a seated reception.
There are two getting ready spaces available on site at the Barn. The each located on the sides of the venue (but still inside). So if you are trying to not see your significant other before the ceremony, you can easily be separated! One room is a little bit larger than the other, and are somewhat dark. If you have larger wedding parties, it might be beneficial to get ready off site.
Probably the most “instagramable” feature of the venue, is their ceremony site out in the field adjacent to the venue. An arch has been set up to perfectly frame the stunning 14ers in the distance. (Oh hello Mt. Princeton!). Guests walk a winding path to the ceremony site, where they then walk through a stand alone door frame to enter the ceremony area. Wooden benches are already lined up, making this site so natural and effortlessly beautiful.
In case of a rain situation, there won’t be much room inside to move the ceremony if needed. A tent would probably be recommended for an outdoor ceremony!
After the couple says “I do”, guests then get to walk back to the barn for cocktail hour and a reception! Inside the barn is a large room with brick accents that can seat up to 160 (although I do think that number would be tight). Just outside of the barn in a concrete patio which makes for the perfect cocktail area and hangout spot! Food trucks and mobile bars can easily be set up in this area under the market lights!
There are many cute lodging options for your guests in Buena Vista. One of the most popular would be the Surf Hotel or Buffalo Peaks B&B. Others found a lovely stay at the Best Western in town! There are also many local Airbnbs to choose from. If you’re looking for something a bit more funky, the Amigo Motor Lodge in Salida is only 30ish minutes away!
If booking your event at the Barn at Sunset Ranch, you will be getting the following;
To host your wedding at the Barn at Sunset Ranch will run about $8,000. This does not include food and beverage costs, like other venues might require. The Barn at Sunset Ranch has a BYOB policy, and a ‘build your own vendor team’ concept (which I personally love).
If you enjoyed Ginger and Jim’s Barn at Sunset Ranch wedding, then I think you’d also enjoy this Guyton Ranch wedding, as well as this Spruce Mountain Ranch wedding!
