JUMP AHEAD TO:
Nicole and Jesse picked the absolute perfect weekend to host their Aspen Meadows Resort Plato’s Deck wedding, as the leaves were hitting peak foliage in early October. They found the most perfect intimate wedding venue that had views of Maroon Valley and within a 5 minute drive of downtown Aspen. They wanted an experience for their out of town guests to truly take in the beauty of Colorado. With the yellow and orange hues complimenting the hunter green and grays of their wedding party members, and the ‘cool but not cold’ crisp air of fall, it was a day to remember! Nicole and Jesse love the outdoors, and even got engaged in the winter in Rocky Mountain National Park! Take a peek below for more images from their day.

Aspen Meadows Resort is one of my favorite wedding venues in the Roaring Fork Valley! Not only is it a beautiful place to stay and relax, with incredibly views of the mountains that surround it and easy access to downtown, but it’s a great place to host an event. Their on site chef has created a delicious menu with Colorado regional cuisine, and the guest suites and venue sites all of floor to ceiling windows to bask in the beautiful surroundings. It is a great option for weddings in all seasons, and they can offer different options to suit your needs depending on wedding guest size.
While most ski town resort venues will sit just outside of town, Aspen Meadows is literally in Aspen. The resort is at the end of a residential neighborhood, in the historic west end just 5 minutes from down town. To get views similar to the ones at the resort, you would normally have to drive down a dirt road or up and adjacent mountain. But not here! You could easily bike into town if you desired! The ease of this location makes it such an easy option for guests staying in town to enjoy the venue!
Aspen itself is about a 4-ish hour drive from Denver, located in the Roaring Fork Valley. If driving from Denver, then you’d be passing other quant towns such as Carbondale, Snowmass, and Basalt. Each of these other towns are excellent options for lodging is guests find the prices in Aspen a bit too steep. Aspen does have its own airport to fly into, but flights might be a bit more limited and with slightly higher prices.
Aspen Meadows Resort can host all different types of weddings, from smaller and intimate, to the large and grandiose. Nicole and Jesse hosted their event in one of the smaller sites at the resort, with about 50 guests. The venue they used, the Plato’s deck, can host up to 120 guests, but I’d say most weddings would feel more comfortable under 100 with this space.
If you are looking for a larger venue on site to host your wedding, then I’d suggest looking into their other site options such as the meadow (called Anderson Park) and the McNulty Ballroom, which can host up to 275 guests!
The beauty of hosting your wedding at a resort, is that the room that you book to stay in can also act as your getting ready space! Realistically the majority of your guests will also be staying on site, so it makes it easier to have everyone nearby for hair and make up and getting dressed.
One of the best features about the rooms and suites at Aspen Meadows is the floor to ceiling windows! As I noted in a previous blog about What Your Photographer Wish You Did On Your Wedding Day, I always suggest getting a room with large natural window light! These suites were a perfect example of great window light.
Aspen Meadows has 98 guest suites at their resort. The ones that Nicole and Jesse had were two bedroom suits, with two bathrooms and a living space! This gave their friends plenty of room to spread out with their things and drink some champagne and mingle without getting in the way of the makeup artists. It was perfect!
There are two spaces as Aspen Meadows that are commonly used for ceremonies. Plato’s Deck is where Nicole and Jesse got married, but there is also a meadow on the other side of the resort called Anderson Park which is also stunning.
Plato’s deck sits on top of the Albright Pavilion and Davis Commons, where Nicole and Jesse had their reception. It has 360 degree views of the beautiful mountains that surround Aspen. The modern architecture of the building provides a fun an inviting space for guests. The deck is also connected to an adjacent terrace, called the Bren + Mel Simon Terrace, which makes a perfect transition to a cocktail hour.
The reception space that Nicole and Jesse used was the Madeleine K. Albright Pavilion and Davis Commons, which is technically the smaller wedding space on site at Aspen Meadows Resort. It can host up to 120 seated guests for dinner. This space is both indoors and outdoors, which is perfect for warm weather months for guests to experience the Colorado mountain views outside!
The defining feature of this space would be the skylight above the middle of the room, and the floor to ceiling windows on all sides! The space is modern and newly renovated, yet also feels intimate and cozy at the same time. Nicole and Jesse used this space for their dance floor with the friends and family!
If you are looking for a larger reception space at Aspen Meadows, then I’d look into the McNulty Ballroom which can host up to 275 guests for a seated reception!
When hosting your wedding at Plato’s Deck at Aspen Meadows Resort, you will get on site staff and also chair and tables for your event! (The resort does suggest that if you are getting married at the other wedding site on the property to get chair rentals.) The catering for weddings is provided by Aspen Meadows and I can assure from personal experience that it is delicious! The venue does provide additional add ons to your packages such as cake and dessert, bar setup, and coat check!
