If your dream wedding involves a log lodge, a mountain valley, remote roads, and a guest list who will talk about the experience for years, Pine Creek Cookhouse should be on your list. It sits at the very end of Castle Creek Road in the Ashcroft Valley, right where the Elk Mountains rise up around you. In the fall, the aspen groves are glowing with a vibrant yellow with the leafs dancing in the wind. It’s truly one of the more magical wedding venues I’ve been to.
Delaney and Jack had the most epic and intentional Pine Creek Cookhouse wedding around the autumn solstice. The couple celebrated the night before in downtown Aspen, and stayed locally at the Mollie hotel. In the morning, after getting their hair and makeup done and putting on their gowns, the whole crew ventured up the mountain via shuttles to the venue. About half way down Castle Creek Road, you lose service- part of the charm of this remote spot!
Guests were also ushered up to the venue by shuttles, and greeted with beer burros (how fun!) as they walked through the aspen groves to the ceremony location. The ceremony overlooks the best views of the mountain range, leaving the guests just astounded. After Delaney and Jack’s emotional I do’s (and a surprise appearance by their pup, Poppy), everyone wandered back to the log cabin Cookhouse, a historic dinning hall lodge. There they were met with drinks and appetizers before sitting down for a cozy plated meal. The band set up and played alllll night long for the happy couple to dance to with their friends. It was a beautiful experience being out there with this whole group.
JUMP AHEAD TO:
TogglePine Creek Cookhouse is a log lodge restaurant in the historic Ashcroft Valley, about 12 miles outside Aspen. It took about 30 minutes to get their from downtown. The setting is the big draw. The valley opens up to the Elk Range, the property sits close to 10,000 feet in elevation.
The history is part of the charm. According to Edible Aspen, the site began as the dining hall for a 1960s mountaineering school, and the original one-room building seated about 20. That building burned in 2003, and a new log lodge opened later that year. Owner John Wilcox has run the Cookhouse since the late 1980s. The food is what they call “American Alpine,” with local ingredients when possible. Think elk, trout, and buffalo, plus vegetarian and vegan options. It’s not your average wedding catering. It’s a real restaurant kitchen, and it shows.

The Log Lodge
This is the heart of the venue. The indoor dining space holds up to 160 guests, with big windows, warm log walls, and views of the surrounding peaks. It’s a restaurant first, so the space already feels cozy and lived in. It photographs beautifully with candlelight and the mountains glowing in the background, especially at dusk.
The Grounds & Valley
This is where the portraits happen. The lodge sits in an open meadow with the Elk Range around it, and the Ashcroft area has about 600 acres of sub-alpine terrain to explore. In summer and fall you can wander the meadow and nearby trails for portraits.
Ceremony Location
On the property, down a path through the aspen groves, opens up to a larger field that is the perfect spot for a large ceremony setup. The backdrop is stunning with views of rocky peaks. It is surrounded by aspens so it is gorgeous no matter the season!

Getting there is part of the wedding. In summer and fall, guests can drive right to the front door. In winter, there’s no road to the restaurant. Guests arrive by horse-drawn sleigh, or on cross-country skis or snowshoes. Plan ahead for what your guests will wear.
Plan for altitude and weather. At close to 10,000 feet, the weather can change quickly, even in summer. Evenings are cold, and guests coming from lower elevations may feel the altitude. A cozy wrap or blanket basket, plenty of water, and a Plan B for timing all go a long way.
Know the food style. This is a real restaurant kitchen with a mountain gourmet menu led by Executive Chef Chris Keating, according to Edible Aspen. Expect game, fish, and locally sourced ingredients. Let the venue know early about dietary needs. They offer vegetarian and vegan options.
Ask about pricing and availability directly. Reach out to the private events team for up to date pricing and packages. Know that this a premium and sought after venue, with prices reflecting that. Off-season pricing will be a bit cheaper.
Stay in Aspen. The venue itself doesn’t have guest lodging listed, and most guests will stay in Aspen. Set up a shuttle for the drive up Castle Creek Road, especially if you’re serving drinks.
Book your photographer early. Aspen venues and dates fill up quickly, especially in peak fall color and ski season. If you have a date in mind, start the conversation soon.
Light moves fast. Mountains block the sun early in the valley, so build your timeline around sunset and give your portraits plenty of buffer.
