I was so excited to work with Taylor and Nic at their Greystone Castle wedding in Boulder, not only because these two were so adorable and sweet, but because they had such incredible style. Hearing who they had picked for their dream team of wedding vendors reassured me that this wedding was not messing around! It was also my first time working at Greystone Castle up on Flagstaff mountain, and I was so pleasantly surprised with this spot! Taylor and Nic actually met at CU in Boulder, so this area means a lot to them. It also helps that it is set amongst the foothills with absolutely no one else around them. They venue aligned with their own style; sophisticated and elevated.
Taylor and Nic are silly, goofy, and sweet and pure. Their day was filled with flowers, delicious drinks, a lot of dancing, and an oxygen bar! I would relive this day over and over again if I could, and I’m sure they would say the same.

Greystone Castle sits on the very top of Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, Colorado. It’s a windy road to the top, but the views are remote tranquility is totally worth it. The property sits on a vast acreage of land, completely isolated from its neighbors. The castle itself was built in 1990, and the family still owns it today! One of the co-owners, Jacqueline, decided a few years back to start using the home as a pop-up venue for catering and culinary events, as that has been her educational focus. In 2019 they also started opening up the property to larger events such as weddings.
Greystone Castle has quickly been on the rise of popularity for local wedding venues in the Denver and Boulder area! It’s remoteness makes you feel like you are out of the city and in the mountains, when in reality you are so close to all of the city’s offerings!
As mentioned before, Greystone Castle is located on the top of Flagstaff mountain. It is about a 15 minute drive up the mountain. It is heavily advised to provide a shuttle for guests to get them to and from the wedding venue. The road can be very steep and winding road and no one who is drinking any alcohol is advised to drive down it. Parking can also be limited on site, so it is again advised to look into a shuttle service.
The castle is about a 5 minute drive from one of the most popular photo look-out spots in Boulder, Lost Gulch! So if it is in your wedding timeline to escape for a bit for some photos, it’d be worth check out that spot!
There are a few areas on site for the couple to get ready, but they are not really designed for a large group to get hair and make up done on site. It is most common to get that done off site (either at a salon or a hotel), and then come to the venue to get dressed. Just outside of the castle, to the side of the main building, is a smaller building where one group can get ready. This building isn’t exactly “photo-worthy”, as there is a basketball court inside, but it is a place to set up if need be. There are two rooms inside the house that might be used depending on a few factors with the set up of your wedding day. It must be noted to remember that this castle is a functioning home, and not originally designed to be a wedding venue or space, so the inside is usually off limits for those reasons.
The main ceremony space is in the backyard of the mansion. Guests are welcomed through the front door, and ushered through the main foyer into the back yard. The main foyer has a gorgeous black and white tiled floor that screams elegance.
Once into the backyard, guests might be served some champagne or a welcome drink. Here they will find their seats. There are many different options of where/how to set up ceremonies in this area. Taylor and Nic opted to have the guests facing the main house, where they hung wisteria from the tree. Other options would be the have the guests facing out, where the rolling hills and trees in the back would be the background.
In the front of Greystone Castle is a large yard big enough to post up at reception tent to fit your needs! (As well as outdoor bathroom trailers and catering tents). Tents are a very luxurious reception space option that can be done up in any which way your style sees fit! Taylor and Nic had a plethora of florals hanging from their tent, and also got a black and white checkered dance floor to match the inside of the Greystone Castle! Different tent companies can provide different size tents depending on your needs, and the venue should have many recommendations of people that have used before.
Again it must be noted that receptions can not happen inside of the castle, as there is no room large enough and it is still a functioning personal home!
The venue is located on rollings hills of private land, outline with pine trees in the distance. Some of the tops of the flat irons can be seen, as well as a cute pond and an aspen grove in the front. There are so many beautiful locations around the property for photos!
For photos inside, the main foyer has a grand staircase that is absolutely stunning. Each room on the main floor also has funky and interesting wall paper that I loved to shoot against. Your options are endless!
