Piney River Ranch

Bride and Groom on lake at Piney River Ranch

Found down a dirt road, which takes about 45mins to tackle from Vail, lays the most sought after wedding venue with a view in the Colorado mountains! Piney River Ranch

Piney River is located about a 45 minute drive north of the fun ski town of Vail, Colorado in the White River National Forest. It is so unique, as it is a privately owned ranch, and only accessible during the summer and early fall months! (The road is closed during the rest of the year). On site are 9 lodging options! They have 6 cabins (which can sleep a total of 40 people between them) and three glamping tents (which sleep 12 people total between them). While PRR is capable of hosting larger wedding events, they also allow smaller events, and even offer “ceremony-only” options.

Along with the views, there is a lake on site! Canoe and kayak rentals are available at the main lodge. There are many beautiful trails to hike surrounding the lake, and the aspens turn a vibrant orange in the fall time. Also on site is a restaurant, which caters all of the events at Piney River Ranch.

Capacity

While the venue can hold up to 200 guests, smaller events can be held for “ceremony-only” options Monday-Thursdays!

Venue space options;

  • Indoor/Outdoor Ceremony option
  • Indoor Reception option
  • Indoor/Outdoor Cocktail option
  • Getting Ready Lounges

Nearby Lodging-

Vail Marriott, The Sebastian Vail, and the Austria Haus Hotel are just a few of MANY lovely hotels in Vail. Vail also has ample options for airbnbs and bed and breakfast spots!

Venue Includes-

  • Ceremony Seating
  • Reception Seating
  • Bar top
  • On-site parking
  • Tables
  • Silverware, glassware, etc.
  • Horse shoe pit
  • 20% canoe rentals on day-of wedding

Restrictions-

Dogs ARE allowed. A heads up that the road to Piney is ROUGH. It is a dirt road that can take anywhere from 35-60 minutes to get down. A vehicle that can take the bumps and rockiness of this road is best. All events must conclude by 10pm. Couples must hire a wedding coordinator. String lights are not allowed due to power restrictions. No sparklers or fireworks allowed. Bands ARE allowed. Catering and Beverage service must be provided by PRR. There is no in-house sound system.

Piney River Ranch Wedding Cost-

For a ceremony only options (Mon-Thurs only), the event rental is $4,500. If you’d like to also have your reception on site, Saturdays are $13,000, Friday and Sundays are $9,600, and Monday-Thursdays are $7,800. Food and beverage costs are not included in these prices, and PRR uses it’s in-house catering. Cabin pricing is also not included.

Maurin Land

Maurin Land Wedding

20 minutes from the Aspen airport is a family owned homestead that sits on the Capitol Creek in Old Snowmass. Maurin Land was formed in 1888, and has been in family hands for the last 5 generations. They pride themselves on the preservation of the agricultural heritage, environment, and wildlife that continues to make its way to the fields. The tall grass is the venues signature trademark that is so romantic for sunset events.

The best part about this venue, other than the stunning scenic views, is the fact that it is a blank slate! The venue really only provides the land….you and your imagination will have to pull together the rest of your wedding vision. While this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, some wedding planners and designers find this to be a dream! The sky is the limit! Just be aware that you will have to bring in *everything*; tents, chairs, tables, toilets, lights, etc.

Another thing to note about this venue is that they have VERY limited availability; they only schedule three weddings a year!! They do this to keep human activity as low as possible to preserve the land. How amazing is that!?

Capacity

Maurin Land can host about to 200 guests.

Venue space options;

  • Outdoor ceremony field
  • Outdoor reception field (can put up tent)

Nearby Lodging-

Snowmass is the ski town where the land is located, and it is 20 minutes from Aspen and the Aspen airport. So airbnbs in either Snowmass, Aspen, or Carbondale, Colorado will be your easiest options. Of course there are some amazing luxury hotels in downtown Aspen such as Hotel Jerome, the St. Regis, and The Little Nell.

Venue Includes-

  • Outdoor ceremony field
  • Outdoor reception field (can put up tent)
  • Mowing of the lawn for ceremony site
  • Areas for vendors to set up

Restrictions-

The biggest restriction with Maurin Land is that it only allows one wedding per month, and maxing out at only three weddings per year! But hear them out- this land is first and foremost a homestead and used for agricultural purposes. The less human activity on the land, the better. Other restrictions is that there is no power or structures; meaning you have to bring allllll other vendors in. It is a primitive field. So no electricity, potable water, sewer, or other buildings available. (That’s ok though- this opens you up for a blank slate in your wedding design vision! Couples can bring in tents and bathrooms and lighting).

Maurin Land Wedding Cost-

The site fee is $7,000 to use the land for ceremony and reception. This includes mowing of the lawn where needed!

Lunch Rock

colorado mountain wedding photographer

If you’re looking for epic mountain views of the Continental Divide for a special ceremony spot for your wedding, then you MUST check out Lunch Rock in Winter Park, Colorado!

The venue and ceremony space is a trip. It sits at 11,200 feet elevation on Mary Jane Mountain in Winter Park, Colorado. It provides guest transportation for the day with a gondola ride to wedding venue at the top, where you can see a few different peaks among the Continental Divide!

Located about an hour from Denver, Winter Park has all the perks of a great ski town, minus the crowds or price tag of other resort towns like Aspen or Vail. This new wedding venue is very instagramable. The experience of saying “I do” at such high elevation is one your guests will never forget either! Colorado can quite literally….”take your breath away”!!

Capacity-

Up to 150 people, but smaller weddings (60-90) will probably benefit most from this space.

Venue space options;

  • Indoor/Outdoor Ceremony option
  • Outdoor/Indoor Reception option

Winter Park is filled with multiple lodging options. Airbnbs are a popular choice, but hotels like Zephyr Mountain, Trailhead Inn, The Viking Lodge, and Winter Park Mountain Lodge.

If you have a few more guests you’d like to invite, there are a few rental homes nearby that the Dunton Hot Springs crew can help you find. It’s location in Southwest Colorado makes it a bit trickier to get to, but the drive is worth it.

  • Reception Seating
  • The cabins
  • Assistance with wedding planning (but they are not a full wedding coordinator)
  • ALL catering and beverage costs! 3 meals a day.

Restrictions-

Summer and Fall seasons have a 3 night minimum, while Winter and Spring seasons have a 2-night minimum. If you plan on having 20 or more guests, a “town buy-out” is also required. (But wouldn’t you want that anyway!?).

Dunton Hot Springs wedding cost-

Summer and Fall events (peak season) require a 3 night minimum. May 22- Oct 31 will be priced at $31,000 per night, while June 1- Oct 15 can be priced a bit higher with the addition of the Dunton River Camp lodging (putting you up to 60 guests) at $43,000 per night. Three Peaks Ranch

Colorado mountain wedding venue sunset

Three Peaks Ranch is a family owned modern ranch and wedding venue just outside of Westcliffe, Colorado. It is about 3 hours driving distance from Denver, nestled underneath a range of snowcapped 14ers including Crestone Peak and Crestone Needle.

The venue, which was recently built, looks like something out of a ranch magazine from Montana. With horses grazing in the wildflowers behind the canvas barn, and the modern styling within the barn walls, this ranch is a true treasure.

Couples can say their “I dos” in the field adjacent to the barn and cabin structures on site, with the snowy Rocky Mountains in the distance. They can also have close family stay on site with them, in the luxury accommodations built by the owners. The canvas barn is a fun space for a dinner reception and dancing, and I love that food trucks are allowed to be used at this venue as well!

Capacity-

The venue has enough chairs, tables, and linens for 200 guests, the venue itself can accommodate up to 200. (100 guests seated inside the canvas tent for reception, with another 100 outside). Since the town of Westcliffe is a small mountain town, lodging for up to 200 guests can be tricky. I feel that this venue is optimal for 50-100 guests for the best experience.

Venue space options;

  • Outdoor/Indoor Ceremony option
  • Outdoor/Indoor Reception option
  • Cocktail hour area
  • Two cabins (sleeps 4)
  • One main cabin (sleeps 2)
  • The Gathering Place (kitchen, dining area, living area, fireplace)

Nearby Lodging-

Westcliffe, Colorado is a small and quiet mountain nearby the venue. It can be a popular destination for mountain getaways in the summer, so booking accommodations for guests is recommended to be done so as early as possible. Three Peaks Ranch suggests places to stay such as Westcliffe Inn and Lampost Lodge. Nearby, is also the quant town of Salida, which is a little more bustling with restaurants and shops. For hotels in Salida, check out Manhattan Hotel Salida, or my favorite, Amigo Motor Lodge!

Venue Includes-

  • Rehearsal Dinner usage
  • Dance Floor
  • 5 custom farm tables, 50 chairs
  • Ceremony site with 50 chairs
  • 4 options for ceremony arbors
  • Cocktail tables and buffets
  • White linens
  • Lodging (two farm house cabins, and one main cabin)
  • The “Gathering Place” with kitchen, dining area, living area, and fireplace.
  • Parking for up to 50 guests.

Restrictions-

Dogs are allowed at Three Peaks Ranch with notice. No open flames or fireworks are allowed due to the area being under strict fire restrictions year round. No glitter or confetti is allowed either. Food trucks ARE allowed. There is a 10pm noise ordinance, but the venue will let you do a silent disco until 11pm! (Fun!).

Three Peaks Ranch wedding cost-

For a wedding up to 200 guests, Three Peaks Ranch will let you have the whole weekend to yourself for $10,000! 3 days/2 nights of exclusive use of the ranch up to 200 guests allowed, as well as overnight lodging for 6-10 guests for 2 nights. Tables, chairs, and linens are included in that price. For a smaller wedding of up to 50 guests, a 3 day/2 night wedding with tables, chairs, and linens, will run you $8,000.

T Lazy Z Ranch

T Lazy Z Ranch is located about 12 miles from the famous mountain town of Aspen, Colorado. It sits against a meadow that faces towards Pyramid Peak with aspens surrounding it near a riverbed.

What is so special about this venue, other than its photo-worthy ceremony locations, is that there are actually three venues within the property. Couples can choose between these three spots for different parts of the day. Whether they have their ceremony in the meadow (which is most common), or cocktail hour on the Chuckwagon Grounds, and reception at the Main Lodge, it is all beautiful! And being so close to Aspen, you get to explore one of Colorado’s most note-worthy mountain towns.

The ceremony meadow is also available for tented receptions. Sometimes you will see some horses grazing the pasture in the distance. The Chuckwagon Grounds are great for rehearsal dinners and cocktail hour. It is reminiscent of a ho-down pavilion perfect for BBQs and bonfires. Lawn games and horseshoe pits are fun activities at this location! Then there is the Main Lodge, with tall vaulted ceilings that give a cabin lodge look. This spot is perfect to end the night with dancing and a built in stage for a live band! Feel free to bring in your own caterer for your reception!

Venue space options;

  • Outdoor/Indoor Ceremony Options
  • Outdoor/Indoor Reception Options
  • Covered Cocktail option
  • Bridal room (summer months only)
  • Rehearsal dinner location option

Nearby Lodging-

St Moritz Lodge in Aspen is a great choice for a nearby getaway (approximately 15mins from the venue), as well as Hotel Jerome. If Aspen isn’t your style (what?), then you could also look at some cute spots in Snowmass (Stonebridge Inn or Viceroy are great options) or Carbondale, which are a bit further down the road. I love the cute airbnbs you can find outside of Carbondale!!

The Observatory at Alta Lakes

A 22 minute drive south of Telluride (and down a 5 mile dirt road) is the Observatory at Alta Lakes. Upon a small waterfront shore beneath the San Juan mountains is a perfect spot for a small and intimate wedding ceremony.

This small Colorado mountain wedding venue is perfect for couples who want an epic view, lodging for guests, and the quietness of the mountains. The road to get to the Observatory is most accessible in the summer months (June-early October) and would need to be accessed by a snowmobile for the rest of the year! (Only weddings of up to 12 guests are allowed in the off season).

The glamour of this venue is probably the setting. Pine trees surrounding a crystal blue lake, underneath the snow capped mountains of the San Juans. The lodge is also something out of a fairytale. Rustic cabin wood frames on the outside, yet modern industrial/rustic on the inside. Guests get the Observatory for the whole weekend when they book their wedding here, and get to enjoy the luxuries of the lake such as paddle boards and canoes.

Capacity-

Technically, the venue allows up to 45 guests for weddings. BUT- it can only sleep up to 12. So, there are different pricing and packages for under 12 and over 12 guests. Also, the ‘off season’ (Mid-October to mid- June) is only allowed a capacity of 12 or under. The reasoning for this is the condition of the roads, and the need to rent a snowmobile to access the venue. (How Colorado of them….)

Venue space options;

  • Outdoor ceremony area by the lake
  • Indoor reception in the lodge
  • Getting ready rooms
  • Lodging for up to 12 guests

Nearby Lodging-

The part about booking a wedding at the Observatory at Alta Lakes would be that for small weddings, the venue can lodge up to 12 people. Anything over that, guests will need to find their own lodging. The venue is a 22 minute drive from Telluride, so lodging options there would be best! I’d suggest choosing one of the many adorable airbnbs in the area, or checking out the Victorian Inn or the Hotel Telluride.

Venue Includes-

  • 3 nights stay for summer months with up to 45 guests
  • 2 nights stay for winter months with up to 12 guests
  • access to paddle boards, canoes, and hot tub

Restrictions-

Winter months do require snowmobile access.(This can be rented from the Observatory if you wish). The venue also does not provide tables/chairs/linens/etc. These will need to be provided and brought in. This also includes other vendors such as caterers and florists. The Observatory also requires to have port a potties onsite for guests, as well as requiring the number of cars/vehicles in the driveway be limited to six or fewer. (A shuttle service is highly recommended!).

Observatory at Alta Lakes wedding cost-

For the months of mid-June to early October, the pricing would be $5,500 for 12-24 guests, and $8,500 for 25-45 guests. There is also a $300 cleaning fee. This would include a three night stay at Alta Lakes. For the other months of the year, a 2-night stay (required) for up to 12 guests would be $3,000 plus the cleaning fee as well. Dogs are allowed for another additional fee of $50.
